Acoustic Wood
Acoustic Wooden Slats
Veneered slat planks on an acoustic felt backing
Overview
Acoustic Wooden Slats
Pre-assembled slat planks — real wood veneer over an MDF or HDF core, mounted on a high-density acoustic felt backing. Sound passes between the slats and is absorbed behind; the room reads as a warm timber wall.
This is the system most architects arrive already wanting, and it deserves the reputation. It gives a room material warmth and a strong vertical line while quietly doing real acoustic work — up to an NRC of 0.85.
It is supplied as a finished plank, 2420 mm long and 128 mm wide, with a tongue-and-groove edge. Planks lock into each other, so a wall goes up quickly and the joints stay closed. The slat spacing is set in the factory rather than on site, which is what keeps the acoustic performance consistent across a wall.
Fixed by nailing into wall studs at roughly 40–50 cm intervals. On a masonry wall it goes onto battens first.
